Aaron received a Bachelor of Music degree in Musical Theatre from Oklahoma City University in 2009 and his Master of Fine Arts in Directing from Baylor University in 2018. Aaron is currently an assistant professor and co-head of musical theatre at Texas State University. Some of Aaron’s past directing credits include the world premiere of ShaWanna Rivon’s You’re Cordially Invited to Sit-In (Stages), Houston for the Holidays (Stages), Shakespeare in Love, Airness, Detroit ’67, Once on this Island, Violet, Godspell (WaterTower), Crazy for You, Hamoncé: A Devised Piece, Black Magic: A Shakespeare Adaption, The Pavilion, and Hairspray. His assistant director credits include the world premiere production of Regina Taylor’s Bread (WaterTower Theatre), Ain’t Misbehavin (TUTS), and the regional premiere of Dear Jack, Dear Louise (A.D. Players).
In addition to his creative work, Aaron has published articles in Ecumenica, The Texas Theatre Journal, and the upcoming Hamilton: History, Hip-Hop and Politics: Essays on the Afterbirth of a Nation. Aaron has also presented papers at the Association for Theatre in Higher Education conference, Comparative Drama Conference, Mid-America Theatre Conference, Texas Educators Theatre Association, and the Southwest American Pop Culture Conference.
When not working on a show, Aaron enjoys time with his wife Holly, daughter, Eliza Grace, and son, Isaiah Carter. Aaron has directed and choreographed over 20 musical productions and hopes that his creative and scholarly work helps promote diversity and inclusion in the arts.
